I was “today years old” when I found out that legendary Minnesota Vikings Head Coach Bud Grant passed away this morning. He was 95. Although, I never got to watch the team coached by him, in my research for my podcast, The Pigskin Tales, Bud Grant was the winningest head coach in franchise history.

Other interesting facts I found out about Bud Grant was that he was typically very quiet and stoic on the sidelines. He was a master at getting his players to do what they were supposed to do without being compromising. He was tough and competitive, but a person never know it.

As a coach for the Vikings his win-loss record was 168–108–5. He led the “Purple People Eaters” to 4 Super Bowls in the early 1970’s. He was instrumental in bringing back Fran Tarkenton.

Today is another sad day in Vikings Fan franchise history. Bud Grant will always be remembered as the greatest coach in Minnesota Vikings franchise history.

Ross Blilie is an avid NFL fan of the Minnesota Vikings since the 1990’s. He loves to talk about the NFL and the Vikings every chance he gets. His hobbies also include bowling with his wife and friends, narrating audiobooks, fishing, and even sitting by a campfire with family at Lake Blackduck in Minnesota.
