Grand Forks College Hockey

Hey college hockey fans! I appreciate you taking the time to read this. I decided to write on medium on this subject because I did not see many sports articles, specifically about college hockey. Where I live, which is Grand Forks, North Dakota, UND Men’s Hockey is very popular. They have been established as a team since 1946.
Since their inception, they have won eight NCAA championship and several conference championships. UND has also produced several NHL players. Most notably in recent years is Jonathan Towes. I do believe every offseason, UND sends multiple players to the NHL. Passionate fans of UND say that since the nickname changed from Fighting Sioux to Fighting Hawks, that it will never be anything other than the Sioux.
As a fan for the last ten years, I still have yet to figure out why some fans get so up tight about a loss. A loss is always inevitable. In my opinion, a team cannot consistently win all the time. Sure, some folks might point out that the Bison had won several seasons in a row before losing, however, they still lost at one point.
This past season, the Sioux didnt make it to the NCAA tournament. I think, for the most part, the team played fairly well, however, there were lots of times I saw a lot of the players playing for themselves and not necessarily for the team. I believe that’s whag seperates the good teams from the great teams. Communication and great goaltending can make or break a season early on. Also, playing aggressive or at least physical, makes a good team great. There were times I saw, this season, that the athletes were just semmingly going through the motions. Their hearts we’re not in it.
Now that the 2022–23 season is over for UND, the team and the passionate fans can focus on next season. Howvever, fans can still watch the NCAA hockey tournament on tv. They can pray that the Goofers lose in the first round.
