Why I write about football

When I started writing on Medium, a good friend of mine had already been writing on medium for awhile. He encouraged me to start on Medium and write about football because he knew that I was passionate about the professional game.
Whelp, he's right. I am passionate about the Minnesota Vikings. I'm also passionate about fantasy football. I do occasionally enjoy a good college game like the Gophers or the Bison, but when its a blowout, it's not that fun to watch.
In high school, I played football for the Kindred-Richland Vikings in Kindred, ND. That's about twenty-five miles south of Fargo,ND. I played cornerback, free safety, and wide receiver. I wasn't the biggest guy nor the fastest guy, but I played with heart.
I really enjoyed playing defense. The hitting of the opponent got me fired up. On offense, it was having the opportunity to run a route to make a catch from my younger brother who was the starting quarterback my Junior season. We never made it to the State tournament, but we played hard and with passion. I was never recruited to play sports in college, but my younger brother received offers from UND, MSU-Moorhead, and Concordia.
When Senior night came, I couldn't hold back my tears because I knew I would not only not play football again, but I would miss all my teammates and the camaraderie we built over the last four seasons.
However, in college at MSU-Moorhead, I made new friends and built a new camaraderie with them. In addition, we all loved sports and hanging out together so my passion for football never ceased.
Moreover, I became interested in fantasy football and that really helped me understand the nuances of the game much better. My knowledge of the game evolved by asking questions and really watching the games to understand why my favorite team does the things they do.
In addition with fantasy football, a person really needs to do research in order to make sure they get the best players available on their roster in order to win. Once I began researching players, I became more passionate about football.
Now, when someone, or even my wife asks me why the Vikings do what they do, with knowing my research and my evolved knowledge of the game, I can give her a confident answer. THAT'S WHY I TALK ABOUT FOOTBALL.
